Stephanie passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2018. As a Vietnam era Army veteran, Stephanie was stationed at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in the late 1960s, distinguishing herself as "WAC of the Year" in 1967. Stephanie's caring nature inspired her to pursue a nursing career specializing as a maternity nurse, a field she dearly loved. Stephanie loved art, reading and politics. Her insatiable curiosity led her to frequent travel around the world. With that same curiosity, Stephanie loved to converse with everyone she encountered, including complete strangers, always trying to get to know and understand them better. It was Stephanie's belief that her crowning achievement was her son, Ryan Montgomery, who provided Stephanie with a special gift of a grandson, Callum, giving her much joy in her final years. Stephanie is survived by Ryan and Ayla Montgomery; grandson, Callum; sisters, Janice Newkirk, Mellissa Bongioanni, Risa Hennesey; and a brother, Phil Newkirk. She will be missed.
