Pastor Melvin L. (Heavy) Taylor, 83, of Griffin, Georgia, passed away January 4, 2021.  He was born December 21, 1937 in Cabot, Arkansas to the late Frank and Isa Taylor.  Mel (Heavy) was an inspiration to so many through his faith and leadership.  He pastored four different churches over fifty plus years and was a true man of God.  He retired in 2018 from Herald Baptist Church in Herald, California, then moved to Griffin, Georgia with his wife and friends.  In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by his brothers, Elvin (aka Shorty) Taylor (twin), Bobby Taylor and Jerry Taylor.  

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Helen; oldest son, Mel Jr. (wife, Christine); daughter, Kimberly (husband, Phillip); youngest son, Mark (wife, Stephanie); sisters, Donna Healea (husband, Tom) and Connie Carmichael (husband, Ken); nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cabot, Arkansas.  Th
