Mrs. Beesley Followed Her Husband to the Better Land

Margaret Rowann Weeks was born in Copaat County, Miss., Feb. 24, 1835. Her father and mother, Benjamin and Mary Weeks came to Texas in 1844 and settled in Brazoria county. After living there two years they removed to this county, remaining here the balance of their lives. Mrs. Beesley had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom have long preceded her across the river. They were Captain Benjamin Frank Weeks, of Wauls Legion during the civil war, Albert Weeks, Mrs. Mary Munroe of Gonzales and Mrs. Adaline Powell. Mrs. Beesley's first husband was Dr. W. T. Lockridge, to whom she married October 7, 1825. They lived in Gonzales many years there after during which time Dr. Lockridge was in the active practice of his profession there. Dr. Lockridge died in Galveston, December 28, 1863. There were three children by this union, Dr. J. C. Lockridge who died at Hope, in Lavaca county, several years ago; Mrs. M. A. Braden and Mr. S. W. Lockridge who survive her are residents of the Slayden community.
Mrs. Lockridge was again married December 26th, 1866 to Capt. James Preston Beesley of Hazlehurst, Miss., who was called from earth to Heaven some two weeks ago.
Mrs. Beesley died at her home in Slayden at 5 o'clock a.m. Monday, March 20th.
Mrs. Beesley leaves besides her son and daughter, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and a host of friends to mourn her departure. She with her husband and daughter were among those who organized the Canoe Creek Baptist church in October, 1882.
Interment will be made at the family burying ground on the Braden's place Monday evening at 4 o'clock. The burial services will be conducted by her pastor, Rev. L. J. Dodson San Antonio, Texas. A Friend
