Jimmy “JP” Powers, 72, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at his home after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was a native of Athens, TN. He graduated from McMinn County High School in 1967. He attended Cleveland State Community College and Tennessee Wesleyan College. He was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guards and was employed as Maintenance Supervisor with Athens Housing Authority for 38 years until his retirement. He was a cub master of Cub Scout Troop 614 from 1979-1980. He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Kimberly Powers Pressley, mother, Varrene Rogers, brother, Billy Queen, sisters, Betty Brown and Peggy Burgess, and his father and mother-in-law, Wendell and Hazel Slagle.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Betty Powers, son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jeanette Powers, daughter and fiancé, Beth Cornish and Ronnie Woodby, grandchildren, Chloe and Christian Cornish and Andrew Powers, Sisters and spouses, Patsy and Ronnie Stanton, Debbie and Danny Watkins, Linda and Bill Graves, and Joann Queen, and several nieces and nephews.
