John Kenneth Monroe, age 88, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Monday, January 4, 2021, in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born October 2, 1932, in King, Arkansas. He loved life, the Lord, his family and music. He loved singing anywhere, anytime. He played music by ear and taught others to play. He had sawmilling in his blood and had a passion for woodworking. He loved family reunions and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Old Center Church in Horatio.

Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents Cleve Dalton and Jennie Belle Hamiter Monroe; four brothers, Rayburn Monroe, Glen C. Monroe, Peavy Monroe and Linville Monroe.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Lynda Emerson Monroe; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg Monroe of De Queen, Gary and Becky Monroe of Plano, Texas and Mark and Lynda Ramsey Monroe of Horatio; seven grandchildren, Mallory, Adam, Mathew, Starr, Laynie, Shannon and Bethany; ten great grandchildren and one on the way and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.

General viewing for Mr. Monroe will be held from noon until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the funeral home.
