Evelyn Hanks Taylor of Pensacola, FL was called home January 5, 2021. She was born in Bratt, FL on August 21, 1936 to Martin and Leila Hanks. She attended Pensacola Junior College. She married Herman D. Taylor on September 7, 1957.
Evelyn loved God and her family dearly. She enjoyed the fellowship and laughter of family gatherings and holidays. Since she was home bound, she enjoyed watching the Gaither program every Sunday praising the Lord through music and listening to Christian music on the radio from Pensacola Christian.
Evelyn was a people person and had a charismatic personality that lit up the room. She always enjoyed being in the limelight.
Evelyn had a variety of careers leading her to Washington, D.C. She enjoyed her DC life filled with hosting many events and parties, travelling, shopping and being the private tour guide of the rich history of Washington, DC for her family and friends that visited. She was gifted with the talent of hospitality and used that gift to the fullest. She was known as the “hostess with the mostess”. She especially enjoyed her career with the Airlines Pilots Association where she met many interesting people. She always let people know they were welcome to bring her gifts all month long to celebrate her birthday. Her last career was spent working in Civil Service as an Executive Unit Secretary. The position of gatekeeper to the captain was an honor to her especially for Captain Murphy.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Lou Marling; brother, Cleve Hanks and their families. A special niece she called Princess, Ashley Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Taylor; her parents, Martin and Leila Hanks and many siblings, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Graveside service will be at Bayview Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m.
