Robert Joseph Manning, head CHEF of Pomegranate, passed away unexpectedly on January 2nd, 2021, at the age of 35.

Robert is survived by his two children Aiden and Damien Manning; mother Wanda Thompson; sisters Mary Bright and Nikki Upton; brother William Eric Thompson, sister-in-law Chelsie Thompson and nephew Liam Thompson. He is predeceased by his father Michael Manning; great grandmother (Nanny) Bertie Deaver; and uncle Wes Clouse.

Robert was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 26th, 1985 to Wanda Thompson and Michael Manning. He graduated from Southland High School and the Tidewater Tech Automotive Technician Program. He continued working in multiple restaurants including The Windmill Cafe, Southern Inn, JJ’s Meat Shak, and lastly Pomegranate, with the love and passion he had for food. On October 25th and February 28th he welcomed his two wonderful boys; who were the most important part of his life.

Robert was a devoted father and avid hobbyist. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and swimming near the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountain area. He loved to hang out with friends and family whether it be sitting by the bonfire and sharing a beer or sitting on the deck, just shooting the shit. He was a great drummer and would have jam sessions with his friend Derek Camden. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult problems at work and around the house. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
