Preceding him in death were his father, James Edward Acker, mother, Jessie Mordaunt Acker, and wife and mother of his children, Barbara Boone Acker.
Bruce was born July 7, 1939 in Portland, Maine. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating from Parris Island Recruit Training, he went to NAS in Jacksonville, FL for technical training as an Aircraft Electrician. He proudly served 30 years on active duty and in the reserves, retiring as Captain. He served as Minister of Music at Santa Clara Baptist Church in Quincy, FL. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served as Chaplain for both the VFW, Post 3308 and The Marine Corps League, Detachment 472. He was active in both the Big Bend Valor Team, the new Tallahassee National Cemetery and was a volunteer for the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program.
Surviving are his wife Barbara Shuler, of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Mark Acker of Pensacola FL and Brian Acker of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Maureen Sullivan of Tallahassee, FL; 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 10:30AM on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road in Tallahassee, with the service immediately following. Interment will be at noon at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a memorial contribution to The Marine Corps League or Big Bend Hospice.
