Robert D. Jasper Sr., age 88, of Rockland, died January 2, 2021, after a brief illness.

Robert was the loving husband of Norma S. (Farquhar) Jasper for 62 years, and a lifelong resident of Rockland. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, in 2018 and they were married at Holy Family Church in Rockland in 1958. Special recognition for their lifelong devotion to each other were given at an anniversary Mass said for them by Rev. James F. Hickey of the Holy Family Church.

The couple has four sons, Robert of Abington, Kenneth of Bridgewater, Lawrence of Winter Springs, FL and Michael of Chester, NH, along with 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper are well known residents of Rockland. Mr. Jasper, the son of the late Lawrence and Teresa Jasper, was the youngest of four siblings including Rose Caplice of Abington, Richard Jasper of Rockland and Josephine Lordi of Rockland.

Robert served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in England. Following his service, he was an electrical engineer for over 30 years at The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, from where he retired.

He coached youth baseball and basketball in Rockland for nearly 20 years and served as a member of the Town Board of Health for 12 years in the 1970s and 1980s. For 9 years after retirement, Robert and Norma wintered in Florida where they enjoyed an active lifestyle, meeting new friends and welcoming visiting family. Aside from those sunny breaks, they have spent their 62 years of marriage on Butternut Lane "Center of the Universe" in Rockland, where they raised their family alongside their very large extended family.

Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water St, Rockland, on Thursday, January 7 from 4-7 p.m., with care given to social distance. All other services for Robert are private. He will be laid to rest in Holy Family Cemetery with military honors. A memorial celebration of Robert's life will be planned for later this year.
