Private family services for Irene F. Bain-Wilson, 84, who passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, will be held Monday, January 11, 2021. Friends may join the family on Irene’s obituary page of Overton Funeral Home’s website beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Wallace Cemetery, Wick, IA

Irene Fern Kersey was born November 22, 1936 to Jess and Emma (Fortner) Kersey. Irene was the 9th child out of 10 and graduated from Urbandale High School. While attending high school, Irene met David L Bain. Soon after graduation, Irene and Dave got married. Dave was in the United States Army and Irene joined him while he was stationed in Frankfort, Germany. After he served his country, Dave and Irene started a family while residing in Urbandale. To this union 4 daughters were born. Tragically, Dave was killed on December 6, 1972.

Irene was then remarried to Donald M. Wilson. Irene was a homemaker for several years. She was a wonderful care taker, baker and cook. No one ever left her house hungry. For many years she took care of her brothers. After all of the children were gone, Irene starting working at Montgomery Wards. In 1992, when Don retired, Don and Irene resided in Arkansas, where they lived for several years. They enjoyed having their children and grandchildren come down to the lake. After several years they returned to Iowa to be closer to family. A favorite past time of Irene’s and Don’s was to go gambling.

Soon after Don’s passing, Irene moved in with her daughter Laura. Irene is survived by daughters, Jan (Scott) Eary, Sue (Kelly) Murrow, Karen (Ron Edwards) Purcell and Laura (Tony) Pfaff; her step-children, Steve (Diann) Wilson, Donnie (Lisa) Wilson, Tami (Bill) Evans and Rob (Val) Wilson; 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, David L Bain and Donald M Wilson; step-daughter, Cindy Hypes; 2 grandchildren, Richard Hypes and Amanda Jenkins; parents, Jess and Emma Kersey; and siblings, Iris Dayton, Marvin Kersey, Mildred Weed, Wilbur Kersey, Howard Kersey, Wilma Brown, Earl Kersey, Maxine Kelderman and Martha Goff.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 10 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Face masks are required. Memorials may be given in Irene’s name to the Elks Lodge #2814 in Indianola, Wallace Cemetery Association, Wick, IA or Wesley Life Hospice.
