Leona May Alexander, daughter of Tracy and Gladys (Atkinson) Archer, was born July 23, 1916, in the Cactus Community of Norton County, Kansas. She died at the Andbe Home in Norton on March 11, 2001 at the age of 84.

She attended rural grade school and graduated from the Densmore High School. On May 15, 1938, Leona and Charles Clair Alexander were married in Norton County. They made their home southwest of Norton until 1946, when they moved to rural Almena, Kansas. Clair passed away January 15, 1992.

She was a member of the Norton Church of God where she had taught Sunday school, Jolly Helpers, and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include: three daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Derek Kats, Prairie View, Kansas; Sharon and Gene Posvar, Beaver City, Nebraska; and Sandra and Bill Salaz, Salt Lake City, Utah; one son and his wife, Charles and Deloris Alexander, Norton, Kansas; two brothers, Leonard "Bud" Archer, Logan, Kansas; and Max and wife Rita Archer, Norton, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 15, 201, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Norton with Pastor Terrill Worthington officiating. The Men's Quartet sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Terry Hillman as accompanist.

The casket bearers were Gale and Kenneth Hays, Elvin Conard, Toby, Lance and Charlie Kinderknecht. Honorary casket bearers were Joe and Harry Fritz, David Field, Roy Johnson, Glen Conard, and Francis Morford.

The concluding service and interment were held in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Almena.

Memorials were established to the Senior Center or the Church of God.

Arrangements were with the Enfield Funeral Home of Norton.
