He was born Nov. 6, 1872, in Ball township, the son of Alex and Thursa Clayton. Most of his life was spent in Ball township. He attended rural schools and became a farmer. In December of 1902 he married Miss Emma Jones in Springfield. Mr. Clayton retired from farming about seven years ago.
Surviving are his wife Emma; and seven nieces and nephews.
Remains are at the Southwick funeral home in Chatham, where friends may call from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to time of services there Saturday, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Cumberland cemetery.
