Departed this life December 28th, 2020. Deacon Doris Day, age 71, of Richmond. She retired from Chesterfield County Public Schools as a teacher and librarian. She is survived by two sisters, Delores Day-Gilliard and Deborah Day; two brothers, Omar Day and Daniel “Dapper Dan” Day (June); generations of nieces among them Dee Ann Day and Naeemah Dye; nephews among them Edward Day and cousins; one sister -in- law, Lorraine Edwards; and other relatives and friends among them her companion of 25 years, Jesse Evans Jr. and four god children, Rev. Dr. Sharone Davis-Smith, Matthew Allman, and Akira & Aaron Foster. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where Deacon Day can be viewed Friday January 8th, 2021 from 10am to 8pm and where the family will receive friends from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday January 9th, 2021 at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 West Cary Street where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Earl Brown (pastor) off. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45am Saturday. The governor’s recommendation on social distancing will be followed.
