It is a fact that an Annbank-born man was the first trainer of the now mighty Chelsea.
The life of James Miller was a short one.
The successful Annbank Ayrshire Cup winning team of 1890 was the first to be known as The White Brigade and James Miller was one of those originals.
He was a speedy forward who won the Football League title with Sunderland in seasons 1891/92, 1892/93, 1894/95 and 1901/02.
His time at Sunderland was punctuated with four seasons at Rangers commencing in 1896/97.
In that spell he won the Scottish League title in seasons 1898/99 and 1899/00. He also won the Scottish Cup in 1897 then again in 1898 and was a runner-up in 1899.
To return to Sunderland and win the Football League title again was quite magnificent.
In 1904/05 he was the trainer of West Bromwich Albion. Then, in the summer of 1905, he became the trainer of the newly formed Chelsea FC.
Three Scotland appearances represented further success in a glowing career.
