New Smyrna Beach - Robert P. Curran, 82, New Smyrna Beach, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 at his home. Mr. Curran was born August 25, 1938 in Staten Island, NY and served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1960. He was a police officer with the New York City Police Department for 15 years. Mr. Curran moved to Edgewater from Staten Island in 1981 and in 2016 relocated to New Smyrna Beach. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach and the American Legion Post #285 and the Am Vets Post #2, both in Edgewater. He enjoyed gambling, taking trips to Biloxi casinos and morning walks. Survivors include one son, Robert P. Curran, Jr. of Edgewater; one daughter, Cyndi (Sean) O'Grady of Edgewater; one brother, Joseph (Ethel) Curran of Aberdeen, NJ; sister-in-law, Fran Gross Polacek of Edgewater; four grandchildren, Gabrielle Mountain, Michael Curran, Colleen Girvan and Megan Curran and two great grandchildren, James Curran and Patrick Mountain. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Roberta Curran in 2007. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at Dudley Edgewater Funeral Chapel, 433 N. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach. Burial will follow in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.
