September 2, 1921 - January 1, 2021
Doris Marie Shepperd Hopkins passed away peacefully at the age of 99 years old on January 1, 2021, in Ellisville, Mississippi. She was born in Noxapater, Mississippi, on September 2, 1921, and was the sixth of ten children born to Luther and Josephine Shepperd.
Doris was an accomplished lady who lived a full life. She had an astounding work ethic and a brilliant mind for business, engaging in many entrepreneurial endeavors. During her prolific career, she worked as a seamstress, a dorm room mother, an Avon representative, a flea market vendor, and was a successful business owner of both a restaurant and an antique store.
No one loved to play games more than Doris. She was robustly competitive and wickedly good at cards and dominoes. She was a guru of jigsaw puzzles. She loved to sit with people, talking and visiting, watching the birds and squirrels from her front sitting room. She always had a cup of coffee in her hand and a full pot freshly brewed and ready to pour for any family or friends who dropped by to visit.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Josephine Shepperd; husband, Revo Hopkins; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Pat Hopkins; and six siblings, Devone Rowell, L.E. Shepperd, Cecil Smith, Amorita Buckelew, Omega Holified, and Howard Shepperd.
She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory: siblings, Stanley Sheppard, Clementine (Norman) Vice, Bonnie Chandler; children, Norman (Kathy) Hopkins, Tommie Jean Doherty, Helen (Bruce) Hall; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Ellisville Funeral Home on Thursday, January 7. Service times are visitation at 1:00pm, funeral service at 2:00pm with burial service to follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
