WILLARD MITCHELL, 81 years of age of Cedar Bluff, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV, following an extended illness.

Born at Tookland, VA, he was the son of the late A.C. Mitchell and Myrtle Daisy (Ratliff) Mitchell Vanover.

He was a longtime resident of Buchanan County and was of the Christian faith. Willard served in the United States Army and was a coal miner. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and enjoyed fishing, feeding deer and birds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Walden Vanover; 1-Sister: Katherine Mitchell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Sue (Davis) Mitchell of Cedar Bluff, VA; Step-Children: Angela (Robert) Vandyke of North Carolina, Kim (Donald) Keen of North Carolina; Step-Grandchildren: Courtney Yates, Emily Marshall, Riley Vandyke and Cody Keen; Step-Great-Grandchildren: Zachary Yates and Hunter Marshall; 2-Brothers: Vernon “Rube” (Joann) Mitchell of Bristol, TN, Connie Vanover of Bristol, TN; 3-Sisters: Gerald (Nathan) O’Dell of Bristol, TN, Carol Gilbert of Virginia Beach, VA, Patsy Prater of Abingdon, VA.

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services for WILLARD MITCHELL will be conducted Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with Evg. Bobby Keen and Rev. Ira Keen officiating with entombment to follow.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.

We will be taking proactive measures to help prevent the spread of any potential illness. In an effort to minimize direct contact, we ask that you consider avoiding shaking hands or physical contact with the members of the family or other guests. Direct Eye Contact, Loving Words, and a Warm Smile can be as meaningful to the families as a traditional handshake or hug, especially during these difficult times. Face masks or coverings are required and practicing social distancing.
