Kenneth "Wayne" "Paw" Helms, 76, of Drexel was called to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 2, 2020.

Born on May 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Kelley Helms and Faye Stamey.

Wayne was a member of Redeemed Freewill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Wayne worked for K&L piping, Henredon Furniture, and retired from Kincaid Furniture where he had worked in the maintenance department. He loved to fish, work on cars, and he always worked in his yard. Wayne was a man of integrity, who was kind hearted and took care of his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Helms; sons, Kenneth Helms, Mike VanHorn (Becky); daughters, Leslie Dover (Brooks) and Tonya Buff (Danny); grandchildren, Kristin, Kyia VanHorn, Brooks Dover, Jr., Daniel Buff, Corey Buff, Micah Buff (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Allison and Malakai Buff; sister Effie Hester (Jack); niece, Jackie Welch; nephew, Tom Hester.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his step-father, David Stamey.

The family will receive friends from 11am until 1pm, Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at Redeemed Freewill Baptist Church, 5079 US 221, Marion, NC 28752 The funeral service will be at 1pm, in the church with the Rev. Jerry McClain officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
