Graveside services for Mr. Philip Eugene (Gene) Lee, 82, of Bude, MS will be on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Midway Cemetery Meadville, MS at 3:00 PM. Brother Vance Woodcock will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Visitors are required to wear masks and will not be permitted to enter the building without a mask. The family ask for a walk thru visit with no more than ten visitors in the parlor at one time, being rotated out. Please be considerate of the family by wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, adhering to social distancing, and all safety precautions.

Gene passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Meadville Convalescent Home in Meadville after a long battle with dementia and other serious health issues. He was born on November 22, 1938 in Franklin County to Mr. Albert Lee and Mrs. Iris Martin Lee.

Gene owned and operated Bude Texaco Service Station for over 50 Years. He never failed to help anyone in need. He was an avid golfer who won the Middlefork Country Club championship in 1985 and scored three holes-in-one. Gene loved his New York Yankees. He volunteered countless hours coaching hundreds of boys in Franklin County Little League and Pony League baseball, where he also served as the Commissioner. He loved his many Meadville Cardinals Little League Teams. He was also a MS Athletic Association umpire. Gene also played (mostly pitched) on numerous local softball teams, and he was the catcher for a Meadville High School no-hitter pitched by Jimmy Dale Mitchell in the mid-1950s. Gene graduated from Meadville High School in 1957.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee and two brothers, Bobby Lee and Glen Lee.

Survivors are his dedicated wife of 60 years, Evelyn Temple Lee and his only child

Angela Lee. Survivors also include two sisters-in-law Peggy Lee of Eddiceton, MS and Carolyn Lee of Tupelo, MS, and two nieces, Shelia Lee Ryals and Lorinda Lee, plus numerous cousins, family members and friends.

Pallbearers are Steve McNulty, Joey McNulty, Larry Hill, Bart Jones, Anthony Kent, Ronnie Touchstone, Ricky King, and Gary Buckels.

Honorary pallbearers are Wade Creekmore, Rayford Touchstone, Bobby Gibbs, Sonny Sims, Vic Smith, Kenny Wilson, Rex Sullivan, Curt Wilson, and Jody Herring.

The family wishes to extend a very special “Thank You” to the staffs of Meadville Convalescent Home, Franklin County Memorial Hospital, King’s Daughters Medical Center, and Dr. Karen Touchstone, Dr. Kim Estes and Hospice Compasses for their love and care throughout the years
