Waynesville, Ruby Evelyn Parton Rogers, 81, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home.

A native of Waynesville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Coleman and Ida Moody Parton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Caldwell of Hazelwood, Bessie Sutton of Lenoir, Dorothy Harriger of Crabtree, Jean Lowe of Ironduff; two brothers, Ishmal "Dick" Parton of Atlanta, Georgia, and Marvin Parton, of Saunook; and a granddaughter, Cara Rogers. Ruby was a beloved homemaker for over 57 years, with her husband, and love of her life, Darrell. She worked outside of the home at Dayco and American Enka for several years but devoted her life to her husband and their beautiful family. Ruby and Darrell were inseparable. They attended Calvary Road Baptist Church. Ruby loved to bake and cook. You would never visit the Rogers home without being offered a table full of delicious food. She loved listening to and dancing to Bluegrass music and Southern Gospel music. It was common to see Ruby and Darrell at music festivals, at the Picking in the Park, the Hiawassee Georgia Mountain Music Hall, or the Feed and Seed in Hendersonville.

Ruby was also the biggest fan of her son's basketball teams. Whether "her boys," Darrell and Neil, were playing basketball in youth league, in high school, or in college, Ruby and Darrell, traveled many miles to support and cheer on their teams. The same tradition continued with Ruby’s grandchildren. As Ashley, Ian, Max, and Ace shared the same love for basketball, Ruby and Darrell were rarely missed in the stands, cheering on Ruby’s youngest superstars. As age and dementia took a toll on her mind and body, Ruby was happy to make it to see her great-grandson Bentley, in one of his first basketball games.

Ruby is survived by her husband, of 57 years, Darrell Rogers, of Fines Creek; two children, Darrell Rogers, and his wife, Jessie, of Hendersonvile, and Neil Rogers, and his wife Wendy, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Ashley Rogers Park, and her husband, Jonathon, of Hendersonville, Ian Rogers of Hendersonville, Max Rogers, and Ace Rogers, of Waynesville; and two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Ellie Park, of Hendersonville; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend John H. Swanger, III officiating.
