Mr. Martin was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Carencro. Danny was veteran of the military, proudly serving his country in the United States Army, RA. He was active duty four years, ten months, and sixteen days. He was a Cold War Veteran as a member of the 2/9 Cavalry with the 24th Infantry Division doing duty on the border of the Iron Curtain between, what was then, West Germany and Soviet-controlled East Germany. On his return to the United States, he went to Keesler Air Base for Air Traffic Control School. He was then at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and assigned Temporary Duty at the Troy Airport in Alabama where he was a controller directing the air traffic of Army helicopters. He met his future wife, Candy, a student at Troy State University. Upon his discharge from the military, he moved back to Lafayette. Danny and Candy married in Troy, Alabama on November 23,1971. Danny went to work with his father at Oilfield Pipe and Equipment for a while and later worked for PHI as an Air Traffic Controller. In 1973, Danny and Jimmy started their own pipe company, Oilfield Salvage before eventually merging with their father to start Martin Pipe Company.
Danny was a military collector and historian. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Brigadier General J. J. Alfred Mouton Camp #778. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Antiquing was another hobby he enjoyed. Danny always found time to browse. He grew Satsumas sharing his crop with family and friends. He loved his animals bringing treats and toys for them. He was a very generous man with an incredible heart who was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be so greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Candy Sluga Martin; two sons, Rob Martin and his wife Courtney, and CW3 Ryan Martin and his wife, Christina; one daughter, Rhonda Martin Denman and her husband, Jason; nine grandchildren, Dane Langley, Madison Martin, Celia LeBlanc, Drew Martin, Adalyn Zoe Marie Denman, Walter Martin, Everett Martin, Gauge Denman and Shelbie Denman; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Denman; his sister-in- law, Melanie B. Martin and her son, Max Martin and his wife, Shauna, and son, Alex Martin.
He was preceded in death by one precious granddaughter, Ivana Rose Martin; his parents, Malcolm "M.A." Martin and Ruby Bridges Martin; and his brother, James A. Martin.
