Erica Suelynn Harris was born March 18, 1987, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in
Lawrence, Kansas.

She attended Topeka Public Schools and graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. She continued her education by taking classes at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska, before returning to Topeka where she thrived in the service industry working at Payless Shoesource Corporate Offices and US Bank.

Erica loved to serve others and offered her help anywhere she was needed. As a result, she settled in with the family construction business and spent the majority of her career as an Operations Manager for My Company, Inc., assisting her mother with the daily operations.

Erica gave her life to Christ as a young child and was a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She had a relationship with the Lord, and garnered her faith, and strength directly from Him. Even upon becoming ill, Erica made sure that her kids remained active in church, teaching them that faith is important in her household.

Erica loved her children, she loved her family, and she was a loyal friend. She was an amazing mother that worked hard to provide and care for her children. She shared a special bond with each of them, always devoting quality time. She could often be found cheering them on at sporting events, taking them on vacations or having family game or movie night. Erica showed that same love and support for her entire family as well. She never hesitated to step in without being asked, and was always willing to assist in any way possible. Although she was one of the younger siblings, she was relied heavily upon for many things, especially when it involved getting the family together. She was anything anyone needed her to be – a babysitter, a chef, a hairdresser, a listening ear, a confidant, a co-pilot, anything! She was also very crafty and creative, always eager to coordinate exciting parties and events for her kids, family and friends. Erica never complained and never expected anything in return. She was truly a selfless person, dedicated to helping and being there for others.

Erica was a true fighter, and after being diagnosed with breast cancer, those around her saw how strong she truly was. After putting up a remarkable fight, she gained her wings on December 26, 2020, surrounded by family, thus receiving the gift of eternal peace.

Erica was preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter Harrison Sr., Doris Harrison, Orris Patrick, James Patrick Sr. and Jimmie Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Renita (Alonzo) Harris of Topeka, Kansas; her father, Cleophus (Meg) Harris of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her soulmate and fiancé, Chris Akins of Topeka, Kansas; three daughters, Eriaun Broils, Erielle Broils and Kimora Akins, all of Topeka, Kansas; two sons, Javion Akins and Tyahir Broils, both of Topeka, Kansas; four Godchildren Amoura, Serentiy, Aliciyona, and Ma’Rello; four sisters, Aliah Harrison of Grand Prairie, Texas, Kalisha (Steven) Holland of Keller, Texas, Jamie Patrick of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Alona Harrison of Topeka, Kansas; one brother, Cleophus (Morgan) V.
