Raymond (Ray) George Austin, (85 years), of Fayetteville, PA passed away December 29, 2020, in Frederick, MD. He was born September 1, 1935 in New York City, NY. His parents were Raymond L. Austin of Cold Spring, NY and Catherine Mary Scott of Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. He graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY in 1958. He served a tour with the U.S. Army 4th Armored Division Artillery Headquarters, Nuremberg, Germany. Ray was a member of Mt Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rohrersville, MD. He served as both a member of the church council and as council president. Ray was a three time cancer survivor. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Joan (Blake) (Brown) Austin whom he married May 24, 1980. Ray had sons Michael Austin (wife Patricia) of Hagerstown, MD; Scott Austin (wife Gwen) of Frederick, MD; daughter Anne Spencer (husband Steve) of Waynesboro, TN; and step-children Teresa Hutzell (husband Terry) of Rohrersville, MD; Pam Walker (husband Bob) of Smithsburg, MD; and Cindi Reynolds (husband Glenn) of Smithsburg, MD. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by brothers William Austin of Massillon, OH; Patrick Austin of Las Vegas, NV; and sisters Margaret Nappi of Brick, NJ; and Catherine Schaefer of Hagerstown, MD and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepson Michael E. Brown, of Boonsboro, MD and his brother-in-law Neal Nappi of Brick, NJ. He worked in New York City for publishing firms and city government. He then completed 21 years of overseas assignments for Computer Sciences Corporation and Price Waterhouse Consulting providing strategic direction, management planning and technology advisory services to clients in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China. Prior to 2001 retirement, he was the Director of Change Transformation for Price Waterhouse Southeast Asia. The family will receive friends Monday, January 4, 2021, 11 AM at Cavetown United Church of Christ, in Cavetown, MD with funeral services to follow at noon. A burial service will follow at Mt Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rohrersville, MD. A memorial service will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather to share memories and celebrate Ray’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to Mt Zion Church, PO Box 55, Rohrersville, MD 21779; the St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Martinsburg VA Medical Center; or the Alzheimer’s Association.
