Ruth B. Edwards
Ruth B. Edwards, 91, of Columbia, a resident of the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring for 60 years, died March 7, 2004, at Howard County General Hospital, Ellicott City.
Mrs. Edwards worked for 13 years with Montgomery County Social Services. She was a member of the Liberty Grove United Methodist Church in Burtonsville for 65 years, a member of the United Methodist Women Miriam Circle and the first female trustee at Liberty Grove. She was also a founding member of the Fairland Friendship Club and the Belles and Beaus.
Born Feb. 12, 1913, in Waverly, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Lillie Mae Brothers. Mrs. Edwards was the youngest of 14 siblings and the last surviving.
She is survived by a son, Monte Edwards of Washington, D.C., and a daughter, Nancy Pond of Silver Spring; grandchildren Suzanne Williams of Jessup; Pennie Kerr of Columbia; Michael Edwards of Williamsburg, Mass.; David Edwards of Jessup; Jessica Pond of Laurel; Zachary Pond of Silver Spring and Moses Pond of Laurel; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery Roger Edwards and a daughter, B.J. Hampton.
A service was held Friday at Liberty Grove United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Union Cemetery, Burtonsville.
