Mr. Lawson was born on August 10, 1945, in Stokes County, NC, to the late James Isaac and Lillian Ingram Lawson. He was a graduate of King High School. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after thirty years of faithful service. After retirement, he opened The Wash Pit Auto Detailing.
David was a member of several classic car clubs and was an avid golfer, but most of all he cherished spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Linwood Lawson.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughters: Debbie Lawson Mabe (Tony), and Denise Lawson Calloway (Ronnie); ex-wife and lifelong friend, Shirley Lawson; grandchildren: Taylor Calloway, Heather Calloway Smith (Lucas), Hannah Calloway Green (Adam), Courtney Hayes, Trevor Mabe (Katelynn), and Brandon Mabe; a great-grandchild, Ruby Joley Smith; a nephew, Kevin Lawson; a niece, Allison Cardwell; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Lawson, and children.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Village Care for all of the love, care, and support Mr. Lawson received while residing there; they became like a second family to him.
A private memorial service will be held in Mr. Lawson’s honor at a later date.
The family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Dancing Daughters Ministry Inc.: 621 East King St., King, NC 27021.
Slate Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of David Lee Lawson.
