Ruth, 89, of Clare, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the MidMichigan Medical Center of Clare. Ruth was the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Squire) Ogilvie. Sadly, Ruth’s mother Elizabeth passed away very early in Ruth’s childhood, and it was after this that her father married Marie Porter, who cared for and raised Ruth throughout her life as if she was always her own.

On April 14, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Forrest “Babe” Myers in Scottville, MI., and the pair shared just over sixty-nine years of marriage together before Babe’s passing on August 12, 2020. Ruth and Babe moved to Clare in the late 1950’s after Babe was hired at Clare’s Giant Way Grocery as a meat cutter. Although the majority of Ruth’s working years were spent tending to her home of four children, she did spend a time with her sleeves rolled up on the lines of the Holley Carburetor factory of Clare. Ruth’s passions were evident in her unwavering loyalty to the Detroit Lions and Tigers sports franchises and to her local chapter of Al-Anon.

Ruth’s survivors include her four children Jim Myers of Clare, Shiela (Lee Stuart) Myers of Kansa City, MO., Sandy Myers of Kalkaska, and Steve (Deb) Myers of Clare. Other survivors include her grandchildren Noel Burton, Shanna (Scott) Graham, Clinton Myers, Adam (Kelly) Owens, Andrew (Mary) Myers, and Alex Myers, and her four great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Forrest “Babe” Myers, her parents James and Marie (Porter) Ogilvie, her birth mother Elizabeth (Squire) Ogilvie, her half siblings John Reagan and Darlene Smith, and her daughter-in-law Karen Myers.

In keeping with the Myers’ family wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in honor of both Ruth and Babe will take place on a date in the spring/summer of 2021 as social gathering safety allows.

Memorial contributions in honor of Ruth may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
