Joseph James Neil, 72, of Pampa, took his last breath on this earth Wednesday evening of December 30, 2020 at Pampa Regional Medical Center in Pampa, Texas. He was born on June 8, 1948 in Pampa, Texas to Joseph L. and Dot Dee Neil.

Being a lifelong resident of Pampa, Joseph attended schools, had numerous employments including Panhandle Industrial as a C & C Machine Operator for many years, as a Drafter for Meriman and Barber Drafting for 18 years and a Wal-Mart Associate for the last 16 years. His position in the electronics department at Wal-Mart was perfect for him as he loved to research and learn all he could about electronics, computers, and gadgets. He was very honest and helpful to his customers as he had knowledge on the products he was working with. As a young boy, he built planes with his father which sparked a passion in him for life. He had many various airplane models and again, did hours upon hours of research that he wrote in spiral notebooks. Although a quite simple man, he did not care for the outdoors and would rather be inside watching TV (he loved commercials), sitting in front of his computer researching airplanes and trains, woodworking and even photography.

Joseph married Carol Quayle on November 13, 1993 at Grace Baptist Church in Pampa and in doing so, he gained seven daughters that he was immensely proud to call his own. He often bragged about his seven girls and the family he so dearly loved. He was an active member at Highland Baptist Church and the Monday Night Prayer Group.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nancy Hardbread; brother Virgil Neil; sister-in-law, Dee Neil; nephew, William Neil; niece, Renee Neil and a grandson, Jason Woodward.

He has left behind a vast legacy including his beloved wife, Carol Neil of Pampa; seven daughters, Marsia Allard and husband Chuck of Cannan, Connecticut, Teresa Perry of Kernersville, North Carolina, Tracy Martin of Cannan, Connecticut, Angie Williams and husband Chris of Thornton, Colorado, Debbie McDonald and husband Robert of McLean, Sonya Sweeney and husband Jeff of Pampa, Toni White and husband Shane of Shawnee, Oklahoma; brother, John Neil and wife Robbin of Victoria; 20 grandchildren, Gary Rauscher, Sarina Popp and friend Jordon, Brandon Allard, Kevin Paulsson and wife Brooke, Sarah Paulsson, Taunua Martin, Robert Martin, Joshua Williams and friend Jakie, Jessica Williams and fiancé Chris, Brianna Regas and husband Tim, LaShonda Whittington and husband Danny, Jesse Parks and wife Nicole, Haylea Meadows and husband Burl, Garrett McDonald, Ashlee Davis and husband Keenan, Jeffrey Sweeney and wife Melanie, K’Leigh Douglas and husband Reese, Roper Sweeney and girlfriend Hunter Roberts, Shane White, Eric Hendrickson and wife Stephanie; 27 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jason, Madison, Breannah, Brittany, Nate, Josh, Makenzie, Blake, Shariden, Shaylynn, Addie, Cayson, Brycen, Gracie, Charlotte, Bree Ryan, Clayton, Hendrix, Ryver, Sylar, Jensen, Aliza, Charlie, Savannah, Aurora and a grandson on the way; nieces, Linda Vanbuskirk and husband Mark of Pampa, Dot Dee Neil of Pampa, Ashley Neil of Victoria; nephew, J.R. Neil and wife Brandy of Panhandle and numerous extended family members. By the way kids…George the cat did NOT really eat his thumb…he was pullin’ your leg!

To honor Joseph’s wishes and remain true to him, the family will not host a funeral service but ask that you remember him in your own way. Should you wish to extend condolences to the family, you are welcome to visit them at Carol’s home, but please wear a mask and be mindful of social distancing.

Joe’s family want to thank the caring ICU Staff at Pampa Regional Medical Center from the bottom of their hearts for the loving and compassionate care given to him during his stay. God Bless You! Also, the outpouring of love, concern, and support from his “Wal-Mart Family” has been incredible…thank you so much for reaching out to us!

Should you wish to honor Joseph with a donation in his memory, the family suggests they be made to either Highland Baptist Church, 1301 N. Banks, Pampa, TX 79065 or to the Freedom Museum USA, 600 N. Hobart Street, Pampa, TX 79065.
