US Congressman. After serving in the US Army during World War I, he was admitted to the bar in 1921 and commenced law practice in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. From 1927 to 1934, he served as solicitor of the sixth judicial circuit of Alabama. In 1949, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eight-first and Eight-second Congresses, serving until 1953. A unsuccessful candidate for renomination, he resumed his law practice until his death.
