Emerson Andrews Former F&M Trustee, Dies

F. Emerson Andrews, 76, a former trustee of Franklin and Marshall College, died Monday morning in Burlington, Vt., of an apparent heart attack. He resided in Tennefly, N. J.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harry and Ellen Wiggins Andrews.

A 1923 graduate of Franklin and Marshall, he also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from his alma mater in 1952.

He was a trustee of the college from 1956 to 1972, and was then appointed to a six-year term as an honorary trustee.

Best known as the director of the Foundation Library Center in New York, Andrews was also director of advertising and printing and later director of the mail service department, with MacMillan Company, New York.

He was also director of publications for the Russell Sage Corp, New York, from 1928 to 1956.

He was director of the Foundation Library Center from 1956 until 1967 when he retired.

An author of 22 books, 400 articles, short stories and poetry, one book "A Foundation Watcher," an autobiographical analysis of foundation business, was published by F&M in 1973.

Surviving are his widow, Edith Severance Andrews, three sons and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Riverside Church, New York City.
