James Andrew Gattuso, 74, of 37 Chandler St., Watertown, a native of North Adams, died Wednesday, October 14, 1992 at Youville Hospital, Cambridge, where he was admitted Oct. 1. Death followed a brief illness. Born December 23, 1917, a son of Nicolo and Francesca (DePeri) Gattuso. He attended schools in North Adams.

A talented vocalist, he sang with the former Pete DiAmico’s Band in North Adams. He was also known as the singing bartender at the former Midway Restaurant, now BountiFare Restaurant, North Adams. Later he was a bartender at the Taconic Restaurant, Williamstown, and was employed with Nabisco Co., until moving to Boston in 1951. In Boston, he completed a hair styling and beauty culture program and established three beauty salons, known as Andres of Watertown, Natick and Beacon Hill. After he retired in 1980 from participating in the salons, he concentrated on hair styling consultations and hair replacement. He continued his interest in music as a member of barbershop quartets in the Boston area. While here, he was a communicant at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. His wife, the former Helen Frances Bunoski, died November 23, 1985.

He leaves two daughters, Mrs. George (Carol) Deane of Standardsville, Va., and Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Roswell of North Adams; a sister, Mrs. Alfred (Celia) Daldoss of Bradenton, Fla., six grandchildren, Jeffrey Adams, Mrs. Charles (Kristine) Cahoon, Mrs. Michael (Jill Marie) Richardson, all of North Adams, Mrs. Thomas (Tawnya) Self of Washington, D.C., Sandra Williams and Royl Williams, both of Standardsville, Va.; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Another sister, Lucy DeMarsico, and three brothers, Phillip Gattuso, Frank Gattuso, and Anthony J. Gattuso, Sr., are deceased.

The funeral from Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals- West Chapels, North Adams, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
