Norma Reed a fifteen year resident of Mercy Ridge, passed away on 12/29/20. She was married to Albert Reed for 58 years until his death in 2006.
She was the eldest of five daughters. Her sisters - Roberta, Ruth Ann, Susan and Linda were always a big part of her life. When their mother passed away suddenly at a young age Norma helped raise her youngest sister.
Norma grew up in the Overlea area with her parents Benjamin and Elizabeth Clayton. She attended Eastern High School and was able to graduate a year early. Throughout the years she maintained enduring friendships with her classmates and would attend many Eastern High reunions.
She met Al working at Hess Shoes and they married on September 12, 1948. He became her soulmate for life. They had three children, Al married to Connie, Donna, and Beth, nine grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren.
Norma and Al lived in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel Co., and Englewood FL, once they retired. They worked together for 25 years at Reed & Reed Mechanical Contractors, mom was the bookkeeper and kept perfect records without the use of any computer. She was the founder of Bargains Galore at Mercy Ridge which has raised funds to help employees with their educational goals or provide relief when needed in their lives.
Norma delighted in hosting family parties, cruises, and vacations. She was known for making the best crab cakes in town!! She loved playing cards, pinochle, bridge, and poker were her favorites. Her grandkids have special memories of Nan winning some big jackpots or card hands at the casinos on the cruise ships.
Norma was definitely our family “matriarch,” the glue that kept our family so close. She was blessed to see all of her family before she left us. They shared some laughs and tears, but mainly expressed their love and gratitude to this special lady. She was a loving wife, wonderful mom and grand mom, and a good friend to many.
Friends may call at Ruck Towson Funeral Home on Thursday, Deceember 31, from 12 pm to 1 pm, at which time a funeral service will begin. Interment following the service at Bosley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mercy Ridge Scholarship fund an organization very dear to her heart.
