Essie Elizabeth Gaines Mills, 95, of Princess Anne, departed this life on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Crisfield. Born in Mt. Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Gaines and Sarah Handy Gaines. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Mills.

Mrs. Mills was a member of Trinity United Methodist Community Worship Center where she served as treasurer, a trustee, an usher, and a member of the choir and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Mt. Vernon Homemakers Association, 4-H Club, and PTA.

She retired from Foreign Advisory as a packer. Prior to working at Foreign Advisory, she worked at Melody Manor Farms, owned by the Benepe family.

Loving memories will be cherished by two daughters, Sylvia Mills Hebron (Albert) and Lois A. Mills Lewis (Leslie, Jr.), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Iris Gaines Smith and Ina Gaines, three brothers, James Gaines, William Gaines, and Leroy Gaines, Jr., and one grandchild, Louis Francis Hebron, Jr.

Mrs. Mills will lie in repose on Saturday, January 9, 2021, from 9 to 11 AM at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 30522 Dr. William P. Hytche Boulevard, Princess Anne. A private funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Rev. Marsha Hankerson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Polks Road, Princess Anne.
