Ann K. Oakes, 85, of 1798 State Highway 420, passed away Wednesday evening, December 30, 2020 at her home after a brief illness.
Ann was born on October 15, 1935 in Massena, the daughter of the late George and Bernice (Barclay) Kingston.
She was a 1953 graduate of Massena High School.
On October 13, 1956, she married Rolland J. Oakes at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. W.O. Thomas, officiating. He predeceased her on March 25, 2010.
Ann worked for a short time as a stenographer at ALCOA. After her marriage, she and her husband enjoyed the blessings of children and she dedicated her life to raising them. She was a member of AARP and the Massena First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and cards, doing crossword puzzles, and played softball for many years. Of all her enjoyments, her family and the special memories with them meant the most to her. She loved their special trips to Disney and the holiday gatherings were just a few of her favorite times. Ann’s grandchildren were the center of her world and was so proud of their accomplishments as they have started their new careers.
Ann is survived by her children, Vicki Rowe of Massena; Donna M. and Robert Martell of Massena; and Jim and Daria Oakes of Saratoga Springs; her beloved grandchildren, Ann E. Oakes, Jay C. Oakes, and James Robert Martell; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bruce Rowe; her sisters, Bernice and Donna Page; and her brothers, James, Thomas, George Jr., Clarence, and William Kingston.
