He was born on June 19, 1936 in Blum, TX to Ed Christopher Bachhofer and Oleta (Collins) Bachhofer.
Melvin was a hardworking man that instilled many great qualities in his family and grandchildren.
He married Iva Raedeen (Perry) Bachhofer on December 28, 1956 in Abilene.
He was a Jack-of-all-trades. In addition to be a farmer and rancher, Melvin worked as a Heavy Construction Operator and as a Labor Organizer. He worked for the International Union Operating Engineers for 40 years, serving as the business manager for two elected terms until retiring in 1998. He also continued Raedeen’s position as a Taylor Electric Cooperative Board Member.
In his spare time, Melvin loved fishing for crappie, hunting, fish fries and meals with the family at his favorite place, Deustchlander in Buffalo Gap, TX.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carlyn Joann Thompson of Abilene; granddaughters, Brandi Jo Delony of Abilene and Lorena Olsen of Dawson, TX; grandsons: Robby Thompson of Abilene, Randy Thompson of Boerne, TX and Sean Magee of Abilene; sister-in-law, Sandra Bachhofer; brother-in-law and wife Jimmie Bachhofer and Blondie of Kopperl, TX; beloved companion, Paula Skidmore of Hodges, TX and several great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his bride, Iva Raedeen Bachhofer; daughter, Melody Sue Magee; parents, Ed and Oleta Bachhofer; sister: Cheri Oleta Bachhofer Gregar and two brothers, Merial Edward Bachhofer and Wayland Troy Bachhofer.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Rosehill Cemetery in Merkel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Melvin’s memory can be made to Hendrick Hospice of Abilene or charity of choice.
