F. A. Wood, 96, former Waseca mayor, retired railway employee and businessman, died at the Waseca Memorial hospital at 8:30 a. m. Monday, Nov. 12. He had been in poor health for a number of years and seriously ill for four days. Complications of old age caused his death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p. m., at Pfaff's Home for Funerals. Rev. E. P. Thomas, pastor of the Congregational church will conduct the services. Burial will be in Woodville cemetery with Masonic graveside services.

Before her last illness, his wife, the former Annie E. Child, wrote the following biography of her husband.

"Frank A. Wood, son of Nathan and Melinda Adams Wood, was born in Gardner, Mass., on Sept. 14, 1855. He was named Francis Adams Wood, but was always called Frank and signed his name that way occasionally an exception in his early years. When he was a small child, his parents moved to a farm near Guy's Mills, Penn. His father was a soldier in the Civil War. His mother died not long after the war closed, probably in 1867 or 1868. In 1872, the family moved from Pennsylvania to Woodville, Waseca county, Minn.

Frank worked on his father's farm, attending school winter. The year 1877-8 he studied at Carleton college. Then he taught three winter terms in rural schools. In November, 1880, he began to work for the Chicago & Northwestern railway company. He continued in the employment of that company until Oct. 1, 1925, when he retired in accordance with the rule of the company. He wrote fire insurance until 1945 when he retired. Part of the time he also worked for the Waseca Telephone company. He was a member of the Waseca Savings & Loan association for many years from 1927 to 1933. He was a member of Tuscan Lodge A. F. & A. M., the Royal Arch Chapter, the Knights Commandery, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He has been a loyal member of the Congregational church since 1875. He has living four half-brothers, Charles S. Wood, South International Falls, Minn.; Edward A. Wood, Jamestown, N. D.; Wm. N. Wood, Des Moines, Iowa; and Dr. O. B. Wood, Virginia, Minn."

In addition to the public service of Mr. Wood inumerated by his wife, he served on the Waseca Memorial hospital board, was Deacon of the Congregational church for 30 years, clerk for seven years and trustee for eight years. He was a charter member of the Waseca Lions club and one of its first directors.

His marriage to Anne E. Child took place in Waseca, Jan. 26, 1884. They had no children. Mrs. Wood was a daughter of James E. "Pat" Child, pioneer editor, historian, attorney and legislator of Waseca county. Her father was author of Child's History of Waseca County.

When Mr. Wood retired from the C&N railway he was agent here. He then purchased the Jerry Madden real estate and insurance agency in the building south of The Waseca Journal office.
