August Joseph Eckerl, 89, The Villages, Florida passed away on August 8, 2016 under the loving care of his family and staff of Cornerstone Hospice at his residence. Mr. Eckerl was born on March 4, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to his parents August Eckerl, Sr. and Theresa (Robinson) Eckerl.
Mr. Eckerl was retired from the United States Postal Service with over 43 years of service. He and his loving wife Jane moved to The Villages, Florida in 2010 from Oviedo, Florida. He was of the Protestant faith and a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife: Jane Eckerl of The Villages, FL; a daughter: Dianne Knight of The Villages; sisters: Doris Carter of Perry Hall, MD and Sherrilynn Wilmer of Overlea, MD; two grandchildren: Christopher Knight and David Knight; two great-grandchildren: Cora Knight and Charlotte Knight and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents August Eckerl, Sr. and Theresa Eckerl-Burchall and two sisters, Phyllis Edwards and Betty Birkenbach.
