Lillian Verna Lewis, 93, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.

Lillian was born in Pea Ridge, Missouri, April 16, 1927, to Pat and Hattie (Northcutt) Merritt. She grew up and attended school in the Sullivan area and at a young age, she began working at the International Shoe Company. She was united in marriage to Homer Lewis on October 2, 1943 and to this union two children were born, Suzzanne and George. Together, they began to raise their family in the Rolla area, until moving to Sullivan to make their final home.

Lillian began working several jobs, often working at International Shoe during the day, and bartending at night. She was well known for bartending at The Swan, Joe K’s, Marshall’s, and the Sullivan Bowling Alley for over 30 years. Lillian was known as a force to be reckoned with and could handle anyone.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, yardwork, watching golf and going to the Eagles Hall. Together, Lillian and Homer also enjoyed traveling to Alaska to visit their son, George.

Lillian is survived by a daughter, Suzzanne Hoevelmann and husband, Dan, of Leslie, MO; a son, George Lewis of Sullivan, MO; a granddaughter, Robin Beck of Nixa, MO; a grandson, George Lewis, Jr. of Branson, MO; three great-grandchildren: Trey Lewis, Lily Seaton, both of Saint Louis, MO, and Wyatt Seaton of Sullivan, MO; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; a son, Homer Jr; a grandson, Scott Seaton; three brothers: Raymond, George and Ray Merritt; six sisters: Ada Sappington, Margaret Merritt, Dorthy Fanner, Vera Woods, Gerthie Brown and Jewel Smith.

Cremation arrangements have taken place. A memorial service for Lillian will be held 6:00 PM, Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Sullivan Eagles Hall.
