JANET MARY PHILLIPS
February 20, 1949 ~ December 25, 2020

Janet Mary Phillips (aka Gan-Gan) was born February 20, 1949 in Talihina, OK, the daughter of Custer Phillips and Alma (Jacob) Phillips and was a lifelong resident of Hugo.

Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Roger Phillips and Tony Phillips along with two sisters, Leona Vantrees and Marceline Lawson.

Janet was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation and enjoyed going to the senior citizen center to eat lunch with her friend Dora Hampton. She was a member of the New Jerusalem Church in Soper, OK and loved going to church singings and Choctaw singings when she was able. She also enjoyed painting and drawing which she gave to her family.

Gan-Gan was a strong-willed woman that always put family first. If anyone needed anything, she would always make a way to get it done. She loved telling stories to her family about her life and times when she was growing up.

She loved her grandchildren and loved to tell stories about her grandkids to her friends and the nurses at the dialysis center. Even after she had to be in a wheelchair, she wanted to go to Josh’s football games; she was his biggest fan. She also like to go to flea markets and auctions with her friend, Mitchell Durant.

Janet liked to work around the house and enjoyed fishing with family at the ponds near her home. She always had animals around and her favorite cat, Juice Juice, was always by her side. Her favorite shows to watch on TV were westerns and “Walker Texas Ranger”; her favorite country singer was George Jones.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Janice Phillips Hyland and husband, Frank of Hugo; grandchildren, Dustin Hyland of Hugo, OK, Josh Hyland of Stillwater, OK and Jessica Hyland of Hugo; special nieces, Rose Neal and Sondra (Tiny) Beshirs who were like a daughter and granddaughter to her; brother, Eugene Phillips of Unger, OK and sister, Christine James of Boswell, OK along with many other relatives and friends.
