Obituary for Linda Olson

Linda May Olson, the daughter of Darrell Dean Spencer and Nellie May Spencer (Clark), was born at home on August 6, 1942 in Runnells, Iowa. Linda grew up in Peru, Iowa as the oldest of seven children. Linda spent her working years as a self-taught cook, waitress, and then as a housewife. Linda took great pride in preparing meals and hosting and sharing with friends and family.

On March 31, 1982, Linda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marlin Olson. They made their home in Beech, Iowa. Linda was famous for her homemade pies. She enjoyed sending pies into work with Marlin to share.

She perfected her pie crust while running the Do Drop Inn, a restaurant she took over from her mom, in Seymour, Iowa. Linda had a large garden that she enjoyed sharing the bounty with others. She often spent time collecting treasures and antiques. Linda loved to quilt and was known for her unique color combinations that she chose. She was passionate about her flower garden, especially enjoying peonies, roses and irises. She looked forward to spending time with her sisters doing hair and nails, frequenting the casino, and having their annual sisterhood pajama party.

In the past few years, Linda moved back to Seymour, Iowa to be close to family and continued her passions of gardening and quilting. She also enjoyed renovating and adding personal touches to her new home.

Linda passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Darrell and Nellie, her husband Marlin, and siblings Judy, Randy and Dean. Those left to honor Linda's life include her children: Mary Furlin (Dale), Chuck Harper (Helen), and Lori Lewis (Russell); grandchildren Tynne Sulser (David) and Jillian Mott (Donald); four great-grandchildren; siblings Carolyn Busetto (Ralph (deceased)), Priscilla Brown (Bill (deceased)), Grace Tuttle (David), brother-in-law John Coe, sisters-in-law Peg Spencer and Leticia Spencer.

Service will be planned for a later date. Linda will rest with her late husband at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Memorials may be designated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
