Jonathon Oldfield, son of William Oldfield and Marah Irish, was born 7 June 1788 in Washington County, New York. Marah his mother died during his childbirth, as her death date matches Jonathon's birth.
Jonathon died at his residence in Elmwood, Peoria County, Illinois, Oct. 24, 1874 aged 86 years, 4 months.
Mr. Oldfield was born in Washington County, New york.
In 1803 he came with his father to Chillicothe, Ohio and in March, 1808, in company with James and Thomas McClure, came to the sight of Bellvue, Ohio, cutting their own road through the dense forest of Fredricktown. James made his lelection adn started to Canton to "enter his land;" Jonathon and Thomas commenced clearing , and with the help of the Indians erected a cabin, into which the McClurefamily moved the following spring. This was the first break of the wilderness of Richland County, Ohio.
Andrew Coffinberry was the first Justice of the Peace in Richland County, and the first marriage solemnized by him was that of Jonathon Oldfield and Elizabeth McClure, which took place on Feb 11, 1812,. Soon after his marriage he moved into his cabin, on the North-east quarter of section 22, and resided in this vicinity until 5 or 6 years since, at which time he removed his last place of residence. Mr. Oldfield was a soldier, and did honorable service in the was of 1812, for which he since obtained a land warrant. after the decease of his first wife, which occurred Aug. 4, 1824, Mr. Oldfield married Miss Nancy Fidler on the 14 Oct 1824, who died on the 5 Nov, 1836.
He married his current wife at the time of death Miss Esther Andrew on the 3 Sep. 1840. By all of said wives he was the father of 19 children, 10 of whom were still living at the time of his death, only 1 Abner Oldfield was still living in Richland County, Ohio.
