Mary-Emma Weir, 98

Holden - Mary-Emma (Duffy) Weir, 98, a longtime Holden resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Sterling Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Her beloved husband of 57 years, Ralph Cameron Weir, predeceased her on February 7, 1999. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter, Paula Cameron Fox and her husband, Barry W. Fox of Sterling.

Mary-Emma was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on May 2, 1919, the daughter of Paul S. and Nina M. (Dixon) Duffy. Her two brothers, George Paul Duffy and William Gerald Duffy predeceased her.

She was a graduate of Commerce High School and worked as an office manager at various companies in the Worcester area. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden. After retiring, she assisted her daughter by working in one of her bookstores. Since reading was one of her joys, that was a very special time.

She was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church in Holden. Music was very important in her life and she enjoyed singing in their choir for many years. She also served on several committees and spent many years working with the Quilters, making crib quilts for special children.

Her family would like to thank the kind, caring and helpful people who became part of Mary-Emma's life over the past several years as well as her loyal friends who helped and supported her during this time.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Mary-Emma's family for light refreshments on Wednesday, January 24 from 10 to 11 am at Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. A Memorial Service honoring her life will follow at 11 am. Burial will be in the spring at Corbin Cemetery in Dudley, MA. Memorial donations in her name may be sent to the Memorial Fund, Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
