Born May 30, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, Michael lived primarily in Denver his entire life, only spending a short time in Tucson, Arizona, during his youth. Between 1961 and 1967, Michael served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. After serving with the Marines, Michael joined the Denver Fire Department in 1967, provided 35 years of service, retiring as Captain in 2002. Michael was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic parish.
