Born in Mt. Gilead, NC, on November 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Wayman and Lillian Ussery, she had resided in this area most of her life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, where she had ministered.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Earful James Baker (2000), daughter, Earline Zulu; three brothers, J.W., Cecil, and Bud; two sisters, Mary and Josephine.
She is survived by six children, Margaret Raby of Rockford, IL, Bobby Baker (Ruth) of Blountville, Judy Chandler (David) of Tunnell, GA, Phyllis Wilson of Erin, TN, Jackie Skidmore of Madisonville, TN, and Connie Bible of Whitesburg, TN; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mae Faucette, Lillian "Bob" White, and Doris Thomas (Bobby) all of NC; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Elder William Gibson and Sister Deborah Fritz officiating, and special music by Alisha Addington and Betty Baker & Joyful Sounds.
The graveside service will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Those attending committal services are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. There will be special music by Heather Wallen.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Baker and Moose Chandler.
