PEKIN - John Gilbert Osborne, 64, of Pekin, IL, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020, at his home.
He was born on April 20, 1956, to William B and Margaret D. Smith Osborne in Peoria, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Marty Terrell of Pekin,
John (John O.) will be sadly missed by his mother, Margaret Petr; daughter and son-in-law, Johnna and Travis Kinney and granddaughters, Riley, Reagan and Remi. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike (Renee) Terrell, David (Mari) Osborne and Richard (Brandi) Bush; sisters, Lisa Sutton and Pamala Osborne; as well numerous nieces and nephews and good friends that became his family.
John graduated from Pekin Community High School. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He drove for Shallenberger Excavating. For the past 18 years, he had been a driver for United Ready Mix - Mixer 93. John was looking forward to retirement in April of 2021. John's passing will leave a void to many people who were part of his circle. He was loved and gave generously of his heart, his time and his resources. John saw the best in people. He was a character who brought laughter and fun to every situation.
John's son-in-law recalls. "I remember the first time I met John. He made me write down my information before I could take Johnna out for the evening. Little did I know that it was an exploding pen and I had just signed up for a lifetime of pranks, jokes and good times."
Two of his many pastimes were playing horseshoe and bowling. He was tough competition, winning many horseshoe tournaments and he bowled numerous 300 games. He also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and NASCAR races. He was a Patriot football fan and on football Sunday, he was a gourmet cook. He loved dressing up for holidays and bringing a smile to a child's face. He'd visit his beloved granddaughters, nieces, nephews and so many others kids, wearing the most detailed costume and handing out gifts to all. John O. was a unique man with a free spirit and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Memorials may be sent to the John Osborne Memorial Fund, to establish an education fund for his granddaughters, at CEFCU, 3515 Court St., Pekin IL 61554.
Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
