Karen Marie Armstrong, 55, of Osseo, died early Friday morning, July 15, 2016, at MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born June 19, 1961, in Hillsdale to Glen and Nancy (Bloom) Ruder. She married David O. Armstrong on October 20, 2001, in Osseo, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2014.
For 24 years, Karen managed Jills Office Supply in Hillsdale. Previously, she worked at the Dawn Theater and Ross Drugs. She grew up on a family farm, raising dairy goats and Morgan horses. A 1979 graduate of North Adams High School, Karen played on the 1977 State Runner-up Girls' Basketball Team. She was a member of the Adams Grange and Hillsdale County Historical Society and attended both the Osseo United Methodist Church and, later, the Pittsford First Congregational Church. Karen was a devoted fan of the Michigan State Spartans, as well as the Detroit Tigers.
In addition to her parents, Karen is survived by her brother, Dale (Susan) Ruder of Osseo; sisters, Susan Berkeypile of Horton, MI; Sharon Ruder and Carol Gates both of Jackson, MI; and Diane Grubbs of North Adams, MI; sister-in-law, Nancy Armstrong of Pittsford, MI; and two nieces and three nephews.
In addition to her husband and his parents, Dean and Dorothy (Potts) Armstrong, Karen was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, William Armstrong, and Howard Berkeypile.
A funeral service for Karen will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Terry Bobzien officiating. Interment will follow at Leonardson Cemetery in Pittsford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
