Frederick Howard Phillips, Sr. of Forest Hill, Maryland passed away from Covid pneumonia on December 23 at the age of 81 at Upper Chesapeake surrounded by his loved ones.

Fred was born March 16th, 1939 to George Howard and Catherine (nee Darney) Phillips. He graduated from North Harford High School in 1957 joining the Army.

He married the love of his life and former Mary Ellen Rahll in March of 1962. During their 58 years together, they raised three children. While raising their family they booked many cruises and traveled with their camper.

He retired as the Vice President of the Edward G. Rahll and Sons wholesale market in Jessup, Maryland where he spent over 42 years. He was an avid Nascar fan and attended Speed Week in Daytona for 45 years. He also followed the Nascar circuit. Fred had season tickets to the Baltimore Colts and Baltimore Ravens. He ran the Mens Slo Pitch League in Fallston, Maryland for 30 years, where he sponsored his Bro Fred team gaining lifetime friends. Closing each season at a Labor Day celebration that grew to 300 friends and family.

Fred was proud of his collection of antique Corvette T-Birds and pick-up trucks as well as his automobile memorabilia.

He was a lifetime member for the Bel Air Moose Lodge #1952 where he was Governor Emiratis and was instrumental in building the successful lodge it is today. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 39 and T-Bird Club of America.

Fred is survived by his wife Mary Ellen along with his sons Frederick Howard Phillips, Jr. & his wife Julie, and Richard Scott Phillips & his wife Lisa. Daughter, Mary Phillips Cornett and her partner Michael Tocherman.

He was Poppie to his grandchildren Keith Phillips, Trish Holloway (William), Heather McWilliams (Matthew), Robert Cornett, Holly Dillon (Brandon), Chelsey Shelley (Zachary), Olivia Phillips, Frederick Phillips III, Matt and David Weichert. Great-grandchildren, Brandon and Chole Dillon, Hailey Holloway, Grace, Faith, and Ava McWilliams and Richard Shelley and his two sisters, Janice Tebbutt (Tony), and Linda Hash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Catherine Phillips. Daughter-in-law, Nancy Phillips. Infant granddaughter, Melissa Phillips. His three brothers, George, Michael, and Stephen Phillips and sister, Margaret Trout.

There will be a private Mass at St. John's Catholic Church in Hydes, Maryland. Mass will be lived stream on January 2nd at 11am, please visit St. Johns website (sjehydes.org and click on their Facebook page-top right corner).

A Celebration of Fred's life will be held at a later date. Evans Life Celebration Home in Forest Hill, Maryland will be handling his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fred's name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore, Maryland.
