Pauline H. Abraham

Oct. 4, 1927 - Feb. 25, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Pauline Abraham, 88, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, February 25th at Country Care West after a 12 year battle with Dementia. Pauline was born October 4, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the late Moses and Dea Habhab, and had lived in South Bend since 1951 when she married the man she called “Johnny.” To Dad she was always “George.” She is survived by her son, David Abraham of Georgia; and daughters, Paula Abraham-VonBergen (Jim), Mary Albright (Greg) and Janis Logsdon (George) all of South Bend. Also surviving are her grandchildren, David Hess (Emily), Alicia Alkire (Charles), Drew and Derek Albright, Jackie and Madie Logsdon, and Kyle, Jason and Allison Abraham; great grandchildren, Abraham and Cory Hess and Eliana Alkire; sister-in-law, Lila Ivy; and a brother, the Honorable Albert (Janet) Habhab of Fort Dodge , Iowa. Aunt Pauline was a favorite aunt of many nieces and nephews as well as longtime “family,” George and Nancy Warrick, who will always cherish her. Preceding her in death was her husband of 60 years, John Abraham; two grandchildren, Brittney and Cory Abraham; her sister, Mary Diab, and brothers, Paul (her twin), Hommode, Hassan, and Oscar Habhab who died in WWII.

Pauline retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation at the age of 70. After she retired, she continued to substitute until the disease that robbed her memory, no longer made it possible. Pauline's passions and hobbies were golf, bridge, family, friends, and her phenomenal Lebanese cooking which she shared with all. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Assn., the Islamic Center of Michigan City, IN, and Pi Theta Pi Sorority.

Our mother was diagnosed with dementia twelve years ago. In those twelve years, she lived life the same—calmly, quietly, peacefully, with that ever present smile. The disease may have robbed her of her memory but never took away the wife, mother, and woman she always was and always will be in our hearts.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. with a short service at 4:00. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, all donations should be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Services, 922 E. Colfax, South Bend, IN 46617.
