Dennis D. Steinhoff, 73, Rockford, died a tragic and senseless death on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Born July 26, 1947 in Cuba City, WI, son of Clifford and Dorothy Johns Steinhoff. Graduated from Cuba City High School in 1966. Married Laura Lesperance in Cuba City on June 19, 1971. Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Viet Nam. Employed by Daimler Chrysler for 35 years, retiring in in 2001. He was also a Committee Man for the union before he retired. Denny was a basketball referee for over 40 years on the high school, parochial school and grade school levels. He was long time member of the Illinois High School Association. Denny was a prankster who could always make people laugh easily with his great sense of humor. He was also a kind and giving man.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; daughter, Gina Maschke and son, Ryan Steinhoff; grandchildren, Tyler Holmquist, J.R. Harris and Hannah Harris; great-grandchildren, Danny, Alice and one to be born soon, Chance; brother, Ron (Kathie DeLaura) Steinhoff; sister, Sonia (Dean) Carter; sisters-in-law, Mary Kuehn of Madison, WI and Tina (Mike) Koch of Oshkosh, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Leah Steinhoff.
A visitation time for family and friends to celebrate his life was held on Friday, January 8, 2021 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Masks are required and social distancing will be in place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
