One of three men killed by a random shooting at Don Carter Lanes on Saturday evening.

Thomas "Tom" James Furseth, 65, died a shocking and senseless death on December 26, 2020. Born July 8, 1955 in Rockford, Illinois Tom grew up on the Rock River, the second oldest of six children to James and Maxine (Stout) Furseth. After he graduated from Harlem High School, he moved to Machesney Park and began his career working for Chrysler in Belvidere. Tom proudly worked at Chrysler and as a member of UAW 1268, before retiring after 30 years. He also received his associate's degree from Rock Valley College. Tom was generous and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed spending time at Don Carter Lanes OTB, he never met a stranger and he loved to be around people. Tom was a diehard Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He greatly enjoyed (OTB) off track betting, and his hobbies included coin collecting and working on his classic Firebird. Tom will be very missed.

He leaves behind his beloved and spoiled dog Romeo; his siblings Kathi (Greg) Sundeen of Florida, Sharon Furseth of North Carolina, John (Rhonda) Furseth of Illinois, Christine Pohl of Illinois and Linda Furseth of Indiana; his nieces and nephews Julie (Jonathan) Rice, Tommy Belton, Chase Belton; Jeff (Denise) Sundeen, Stacey (Corey) Blumer, Brittani (Adam) LeFevre, and Mitchell Furseth; numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and nephew, Benjamin "Ben" Turner.

There will be a walk through celebration of life for Tom on Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Masks and social distancing will be required.
