Dorothy Barrigar Williamson died on December 27, 2020, at Genesis Clarissa Cook Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa. She had been in declining health since suffering a stroke at the end of September and recently contracted COVID-19. A longtime resident of Marshalltown, Dorothy relocated to the Quad Cities after the 2018 tornado.
Dorothy Linnea Hanson was born in Vinton, Iowa, on Octobert 13, 1921. She met her husband, John Barrigar, while attending Iowa State Teachers College. They were married in 1944 and were the parents of Barbara and Beverly. John died in 1991.
She married Gordon Williamson, of Tucson, Arizona, in 1993. She taught in the Marshalltown public school system for over 30 years. Dorothy was a 50-year active member of the TTT philanthropic sorority. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Trinity Lutheran Church. After retiring, she became an avid quilter.
As per Dorothy’s wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in her name directly to Lutheran Services of Iowa, your local food pantry, or your local library.
She is remembered, with love, by her daughters, their families and her many friends.
